5 Days Sukhothai

Introduction

Sukhothai is one of the lower northern provinces of Thailand. Sukhothai is located in the valley of the Yom River. Sukhothai province was an early kingdom in north central Thailand. The Kingdom existed from 1238 until 1438. The city of Sukhothai was the old capital of Kingdom of Sukhothai. His ruins have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage historical park. Sukhothai means the Dawn of Happiness.
The roads in Sukhothai are mostly easy to ride. Some parts might be a bit harder than others but all are practicables for real bikers. You must be capable to handle a motorbike over 500cc and do not except to learn how to ride it during the road trip. We plan to ride around 150 and 200 km’s per day which leaves plenty of time for relaxing, eating and sightseeing.

Itinerary

Accustomed to road trips, I discovered that Thailand offers us many surprises such as magnificent temples, winding roads in the wilderness, unknown hotels from tourist guides! The local cuisine was magical, and our guide knew how to create a friendly atmosphere within the group. I enjoyed interchanging with people from different nationalities.

Chiang Mai – Phrae

We start the day by riding horses in Lampang, also called the “Horse carriage city” and considered by some Thais as the last lost paradise of Thailand. We have a lunch break in Den Chai city. Lunch is followed in the afternoon by a stroll in the Pha Nang Khoi cave, then we finish the day in the city of Phrae.

Phrae – Phitsanulok

We begin with a visit of a majestic temple with its big Reclining Buddha in the province of Phrae. Lunch break at Uttaradit before the ride to Phitsanulok. Then, we visit the ancestral temple Wat Nang Phaya in Phitsanulok built when it was ruled by King Trailokanat (1448-1488). We spend 1 night in this ancient Thai town.

In the morning, we visit the Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat temple, also called the “Big Temple”, still in Phitsanulok.
