5 Days Mae Hong Sorn

Mae Hong Sorn is one of the northern provinces of Thailand, on the country’s western border. Neighbor country is Myanmar to the west. Mae Hong Son’s nickname is “the city of three mists” because it is often covered with mist. The population in the province consists of hill tribes. The Karen are a mix of closely related tribes. This group’s women are recognized by the large brass rings they wear around their necks. The province is famous for his 1,864 curves. Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain of Thailand and it is located at the south of the province. The small city of Pai became famous after a romantic Thai movie.
The roads in Mae Hong Sorn are mostly easy to ride. Some parts might be a bit harder than others but all are practicables for real bikers. You must be capable to handle a motorbike over 500cc and do not except to learn how to ride it during the road trip. We plan to ride around 150 and 280 km’s per day which leaves plenty of time for relaxing, eating and sightseeing..

I’m not too comfortable on motorcycle, but being the passenger of my husband allowed me to quietly enjoy the fantastic landscapes. I wanna do it again! The route through mountains was exotic, the local cuisine was spicy and all in subtle flavors. Spending night in hotels in the middle of tea fields was beyond our expectations.

Chiang Mai – Pai

We start this road trip by visiting the famous mountain-top Doi Suthep temple in Chiang Mai. On the way to Pai, we enjoy a relaxing moment at Mork Fah waterfall before taking a lunch break in a local restaurant. After weaving our way through the 1,864 curves to Pai, a swimming pool and a natural hot spring will wait for you at the hotel.

After hiking in the gorgeous Pai Canyon, it’s time for us to admire the view and to take a few souvenir photos. We then visit the temple of the hill, Wat Phra That Mae Yen and its gigantic Buddha. Lunch at Santichon Chinese village is followed by enjoyable local activities. We end the day by discovering the Pai Walking Street in the evening.

Pai – Ban Rak Thai

We start by rafting in the Lot cave in Phang Ma Pha. On the way to Ban Rak Thai, a Thai-Chinese village, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Bask in the majestic view of the lake.

Ban Rak Thai – Doi Inthanon

We ride across the mountains to Pang Ong, a village in middle of the woods and its beautiful lake. Discover the legendary long neck women’s village then ride on for lunch at Thon. We ride again, following the curves of the mountains to Doi Inthanon. We then spend a great night at the Thai Royal Project Hotel, the highest peak of Thailand.

Doi Inthanon – Chiang Mai

We start by walking in the Thai Royal Garden and take a lot of photos to immortalize the breathtaking view. After lunch in a fine Italian restaurant, we are on our way to Chiang Mai, the end of an unforgettable motorbike road trip.
